Now, while they hunt for a new boss, Mira Murati is stepping up as the interim CEO. Murati used to be the chief technology officer at OpenAI and had been part of the nonprofit for five years before taking on this temporary CEO role. Crazy turn of events, huh? So, here’s the deal: Mr. Altman is out because, according to the company’s press release, the board did a thorough review and found that he wasn’t always upfront with them. That made it hard for the board to do its job properly, and now they’ve lost confidence in him as the leader of OpenAI. Tough break, right?
Altman shared his thoughts on the whole OpenAI situation on X (you know, what used to be called Twitter). He said, “I really enjoyed my time at OpenAI. It was a game-changer for me personally, and hopefully, it made the world a little bit better. But the best part was working with such a talented bunch. Even though Altman won’t be calling the shots at OpenAI anymore, he’s still a big player in the AI scene. He’s the top dog shareholder at Humane, a company with some ex-Apple folks on board. They just rolled out their first product, the Humane AI Pin. True to its name, this new gadget is all about artificial intelligence and even taps into OpenAI’s GPT-4 language model.

In a note to OpenAI employees on Friday, Brockman shared his feelings, saying, “I’m really proud of what we’ve built together since we kicked things off in my apartment eight years ago. We’ve faced challenges and successes, achieving a lot despite plenty of reasons it seemed impossible. But with the news today, I’ve decided to step down.”
We’re not sure how this change in leadership will affect OpenAI’s day-to-day operations, if at all. From Altman’s recent public appearances and what the board has said, it seems like these leadership shifts happened pretty suddenly.
