Samsung has announced the launch of the Galaxy SmartTag 2, the latest addition to its line of SmartTags, which will be available on October 10. Building on the success of its predecessors, the SmartTag2 boasts improvements in a number of areas, including the SmartThings Find companion app, battery life, design, and security.
The SmartThings Find companion app has been redesigned with some new features. One of these is the Compass View feature, which allows users to see how far and in what direction the SmartTag2 is from them. This feature is available on any Galaxy smartphone that supports UWB. Additionally, the app now has a full-screen map view and a more intuitive interface. Users can also access the app quickly and easily via a shortcut on their phones.

The SmartTag2 boasts an impressive battery life that has been increased by 50% compared to previous models, now lasting up to 500 days. Additionally, the new Power Saving Mode allows for an even longer battery life of up to 700 days, which is more than twice as long as its predecessors and almost twice as long as Apple’s AirTag.
There are a couple of noteworthy design upgrades in the SmartTag 2. Firstly, it features a ring-shaped design that is completely revamped and way more compact than its predecessor. This compactness is a welcome improvement over the bulky and intrusive design of the SmartTag+. Although the predecessor also had a ring, this one has metal inside the loop to provide better support for rugged accessories. Additionally, the new tag has an IP67 water and dust resistance rating, making it ideal for pet owners who need a durable device.
When it comes to security, SmartThings Find takes several measures to ensure the safety of users’ data. Firstly, it encrypts the data and then adds an extra layer of security using Samsung Knox. To prevent unauthorised tracking, SmartThings Find only allows one device to track a SmartTag at a time. Additionally, the feature ‘Unknown tag alerts’ sends a notification to users as soon as it detects an unknown SmartTag moving with them, which helps avoid any potential security breaches.
